GERARDO MARTINEZ TOGETHER WITH MEMBERS OF THE UOCRA TEAM OF ADDICTION SPECIALISTS CONTRIBUTED TO DIOCESE OF SAN ISIDRO LABOUR
CARITAS President , Monsignor Oscar Ojea in the meeting at UOCRA Northern Branch
Gerardo Martínez, together with Secretary-General of UOCRA Northern Branch (GBA) Osvaldo Rodriguez and Secretary of Organization and Union Affairs, Rubén Pronotti, received Monsignor Ojea, President of CARITAS (Catholic NGO) and Bishop of San Isidro, whose Diocese includes San Fernando, San Isidro, Tigre, and Vicente López, who was accompanied by Father Jorge García Cuerva, who devotedly works to fight addiction within the community in the Town of La Cava.
Members of UOCRA multidisciplinary team of prevention and fight against addictions, comittted to promote and intensify actions of prevention of addictions and drug-abuse, participated in the meeting.
The meeting was held after the Trade Union Training course for young people in which also participated delegates and building workers from the surroundings.
Speeches delivered by Church representatives and our Secretary-General showed the importance of solidarity and joint work open to community to fight against addictions that tear the social fabric and lead to more exclusion and marginalization.
"Invocation to Apostolic action of our Pope Francis inspires us to joint effort for a better world and free of drugs" agreed Gerardo Martinez and Monsignor Ojea. Besides, our Secretary-General, repeated his personal and institutional commitment to face this issue and said: "addictions impact across society, causing negative consequences in the life of workers and their families. That is why we are not indifferent to this issue affecting labour and physical potential and quality of life of our workers.”
Monsignor Ojea and Father Jorge, talked about Church action regarding this issue and highlighted the joint work with UOCRA in La Cava.
At the end of the meeting, ecclesiastical representatives blessed the multi-purpose room, built in trade union premises by delegates of UOCRA Northern Branch and UOCRA authorities, as building workers representatives, donated non-perishable food and bicycles to CARITAS.
