IN A PRIVATE MEETING THEY ADDRESSED THE GROWTH OF POVERTY AND UNEMPLOYMENT IN LATIN AMERICA AND OUTLINED THE CONTENTS THAT WILL BE DEALT WITH IN THE GLOBAL CHILD LABOUR CONFERENCE TO BE HELD IN ARGENTINA
GUY RYDER, RECENTLY RE-ELECTED ILO DIRECTOR GENERAL, RECEIVED GERARDO MARTINEZ, FOREIGN AFFAIRS SECRETARY OF THE REPUBLIC OF ARGENTINA CGT RA Former British union leader, Guy Ryder, reelected as Director General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), obtaining 54 out of 56 possible votes, received today Gerardo Martinez, Foreign Affairs Secretary of the Republic of Argentina CGT RA, Member of the ILO’s Governing Body and UOCRA Secretary-General, in private meeting. In the meeting, that lasted approximately 45 minutes, both leaders dealt with issues related to the growth of unemployment and poverty in Latin America and some of the contents that will be tackled in 4th Global Child Labour Conference to be held in Argentina in 2017, in which CGT R.A. will have an active participation, both in the organization and commitment of participation in local and international campaigns in order to promote eradication of this problem that affects over 168 million children worldwide. Ryder thanked the commitment to CGT RA active participation for the holding of this Conference and expressed his concern about the rising rates of unemployment and poverty in the region. Martinez, provided an overview of the impact on employment and poverty due to economy adjustment policies applied in several countries of Latin America and, as regards child labour issue he said: "it is fundamental that this IV Conference to be held Argentina be the starting point, so as social actors social and governments, based in a coordinated and tripartite dialogue social, agree concrete and effective actions to prevent and fight children labour and forced labour".Tweet
