ARGENTINA SIGNED THE PROTOCOL TO THE INTERNATIONAL LABOUR ORGANIZATION CONVENTION 29 THAT CONDEMNS FORCED LABOUR

In the presence of Foreign Affairs Secretary of the Republic of Argentina CGT, Gerardo Martinez; Director General of International Labour Organization (ILO), Guy Ryder; Head of Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security of Argentina, Dr. Ernesto Leguizamon and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Argentina to International Agencies, it was signed the Protocol to ILO Convention 29, against forced labour in Geneva, Switzerland.
With this signature, Argentina submitted the protocol on forced labour before the ILO and, thus, the process of ratification started with the approval of Act 27,252 from Argentine Parliament last June, comes to an end.
Gerardo Martinez, Foreign Affairs Secretary of the Republic of Argentina CGT and Member of the ILO's Governing Body stressed "the need of boosting a new mobilization worldwide to eradicate the modern forms of slavery."
The Protocol is a legally binding tool that adapts Convention 29 to current times with new provisions in prevention, protection of victims and access to compensation.
"National commitment in human rights is the first step for the compliance of Decent Work to global scale. The fight against subhuman practices as regards labour conditions must be translated into assertive decisions and political actions" concluded Martinez.
