A RETURN TO NATIONALISM WITHOUT GLOBAL TOOLS TO FIGHT POVERTY

GERARDO MARTINEZ PROVIDED HIS OVERVIEW ON THE TRIUMPH OF DONALD TRUMP IN THE UNITED STATES AND A TREND TO CHOOSE ADMINISTRATIONS AND LEADERS SHARING THE SAME FEATURES IN OTHER COUNTRIES.

Exacerbated political nationalism, economic protectionism and low tolerance to immigration, and to the consolidation of labour rights, subject to the will of free market, seem to be the most significant profile aspects of government that the elected President of the United States, Donald Trump would apply during his administration.

Personal insights supported by postulates that, during his campaign, he emphasized and took him to electoral victory, for many of us surprising and even previously underestimated, but now it shocks the world.

It would be a mistake to analyze Donald Trump’s electoral political phenomenon separately from the Brexit in Great Britain or the political growth recorded by the National Front led by Marine Le Pen in France.

In at least three countries (Great Britain, US and France) out of four that together with Germany represent the backbone of the political-economic order established in the Western world from over half a century, it is observed a clear shift towards positions aimed at "closing out" in their own needs, navel gazing, moving against a process of globalization that demands greater integration.

It is not only a matter of economic and trade relations, it is also political will to assume the challenges of globalization of social equity, equal opportunities and sustainable and equitable economic and social growth and development of Nations.

The current process of globalization, as such, is producing political events in the developed world that causes these changes, as a result of lack of achieving favorable economic results to improve people’s quality of life.

These results seem to undermine globalization and its economic and financial engines.

Politicians who win express a return to nationalism without proposing or encouraging, in any case, global tools to reduce poverty and unemployment that are fuels that feed the violent religious fanaticism and the terrorism of any kind.

With these outcomes and their emerging politicians, there is no chance for changes to end hunger, poverty and unemployment, elements that conspire against social peace.
